Populating your account with sample data

When starting to build your integration, it may help to populate your Clio account with sample data. Below, we've outlined steps to easily create Contacts, Matters, Time Entries, and Expenses in your developer account.

All import actions take place on the Import page within your Clio account. This page depends on the region your account resides in:

Contacts

  1. Download the Contacts sample data CSV.
  2. On the Clio Manage Imports page, click the green Add button in the header.
  3. Select Contacts from Outlook CSV in the Import dropdown. import_contacts.png.
  4. Click Choose File and select the downloaded CSV file.
  5. Click Upload File.

Matters

  1. Download the Matters sample data CSV.

  2. Update the Matter sample data file according to your use case:

    1. If all Matters should be unassigned, no changes to the sample data file are necessary.

    2. If all Matters should be assigned to the same attorney, no changes to the sample data file are necessary.

    3. If you need the Matters to be assigned to different Attorneys:

      1. Get the full names of the Attorneys who should be assigned the Matters.
      2. Open the Matter Sample Data file in a CSV editor of your choice.
      3. In the responsible_attorney column, enter the name of the Attorney who should be responsible for that Matter. Leaving this column blank will result in that Matter being unassigned.
